NAPLAN Writing Prompt: Zoo's - "Is it cruel to keep animals in cages"

Is it cruel to keep animals in cages? Yes, I believe that it is cruel and inhumane to keep animals in cages. Why would you want to keep animals in cages when they could be out roaming the open seas and fields. I think that it is cruel to keep animals in cages because it shortens the length and the enjoyment of all animals lives. Being fed at certain times, only being allowed to play when told and kept in a small metal claustrophobic space.

Imagine being thrown into a little space, with no way out, with no freedom, the image painted inside my head of this is horrible and cruel. Although they try and make these places brighter and bigger, there is nothing stopping the fact that it is still a cage. A cage that the animals are trapped in. They have no freedom and they have no where else to go except the same places every day and every night.

Animals are suppose to be free, suppose to be wild, suppose to roam the land and survive different types of weather and conditions. But no, these cruel inhumane cages and exhibits are keeping them trapped. Yes they may have a nice shelter and food and drink supplied for them, but is that how an animal is suppose to live? I think not. That is a life for a human, not an animal. Animals don't really want all that attention, all they want is to be free.

In conclusion, I think it IS cruel to keep animals in cages, whether people think giving them a clean and luxurious home is good,  its not fit for an animal.
